Allium sativum
A popular hardneck variety. Thought to have originated in the USSR and brought to North America by Russian immigrants. Mottled burgundy skin covers a bulb with brownish red wrappers covering deep, cream colored cloves. Russian Red is a rocambole garlic variety and generally produces 8-12 cloves positioned around a central stock. Russian Red performs well in colder climates. Can store well up to 6 months in the right conditions.
