Frequently Asked Questions

Growing better seed starts with good information. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about our seed, mixes, ordering, and growing practices. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, reach out—we’re always happy to talk through your goals and find the right solution.

Q: When can I expect to receive my seeds after ordering?

A: Generally, you can expect to receive you seeds within 7 business days of placing your order. We try to fulfill orders twice a week but since we are a small company with few employees, it may take us a bit longer. If you need the seeds by a specific date, please plan accordingly.

Q: Can I purchase seeds in person at the farm or at retail locations?

A: As of right now, Wild Mountain Seeds does not have a brick and mortar store front. All seed purchases are through the website only. If you live locally in Carbondale, Colorado we generally sell seeds at the Carbondale Farmers Market early in the season and at the Dandelion Days Festival in May.

Q: Are your seeds certified organic?

A: No, our seeds are not certified organic at this time, however we do employ regenerative and sustainable farming practices on our farm to maintain our soil and plant health

Q: Some of the seeds I was sent didn’t germinate. Why is that?

A: There are many reasons why the seed did not germinate, some seeds require specific conditions of moisture, darkness, light, and temperature. Also, storage of the seed can affect its germination. Make sure when seeds are not in use they are stored in a cool (60ºF), dry place to keep them viable

Q: What is the Germination Percentage and what does it mean?

A: Federal and state laws require that as a seed company, we test our seed annually to make sure it is viable before selling it. Different states have different regulations on germination minimums. We test by taking a 100 count of the seed and putting it in a simulated environment to stimulate the seed to germinate. We then count how many seedlings did not germinate to determine an estimated percentage for the entire batch of seed. We find that 100 seeds are a good representative sample for each batch.

Q: There appears to be debris in my seeds. Is that bad?

A: Generally, no, any debris you find is just chaff that we were unable to properly separate from the seed during the cleaning and winnowing process. If seed has a lot of chaff, we generally try to over pack the seed since it may affect the weight of the packet effectively giving the customer less seed.

Q: I put my seeds in the ground a while ago and nothing came up. Why?

A: There are many reasons as to why your seeds haven’t come up. Lack of water, lack of soil nutrients, too cold, too hot, not enough air. Some seeds can go into dormancy and need to be pre-soaked before planting to break the dormancy. If you suspect that the seed you received is low quality, please reach out to us with via email at [email protected] with your seed packet information in hand so we can help diagnose the issue.

Q: What is your Return Policy?

A: All sales through Wild Mountain Seeds are final. We apologize for any inconveniences that may arise as a result. If you believe you have been shipped the incorrect seed or a packet was mislabeled, please contact us immediately at [email protected] so we can rectify the situation.

Q: Can I order larger volumes of seed than what is on the website?

A: Unfortunately, no. All the packet size variations you see online are what we offer at the present time

Q: Why is there a purchase limit on some the seeds I am trying to buy?

A: Some of our seeds are low volume offerings because we haven’t grown them out consistently over the years. In order to give other customers the opportunity to purchase seed we feel is special, we may impose a purchasing limit

Q: I don’t see some of the varieties on the website currently that I have in the past. Why is that?

A: Most likely, we are holding back some seeds varieties from retail sales so we can replenish the stock in our inventory. If you don’t see a seed you received from us in the past, check back in the following season once we’ve got a good enough stock to meet customer demands.
